Temple Development as the Best Example Developed Temple of Banpong District, Ratchaburi Province

Abstract

The objectives of research paper were: (1) to study the temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province, (2) to compare the opinion of monks toward temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province, classified by personal data, and (3) to study the problems, obstacles and suggestions of temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province. The research methodology was the mixed methods research, that the quantitative research used the questionnaire as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 231 monks in Banpong district, Ratchaburi province. The statistics were used for the data analysis through frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), t-test, F-test, One-way Analysis of Variance, and the qualitative research had the documentary analysis and interview as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 7 key informants and analyzed the data through the content analysis technique.

The findings of this research were as following:

1. Temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province, overall, was in high at mean of 4.21, when considered in each aspect found that was high level all aspects.

2. The comparison of monk’s opinions toward temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province, classified by personal data, found that age and ordination years had the opinions towards temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province were different, significantly at 0.05. But, status, general education and Dhamma education had the opinions towards temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province were not different.

3. The problems, obstacles and suggestions of temple development as the best example developed temple of Banpong district, Ratchaburi province as following: problems and obstacles found that some new monks do not have the knowledge of Dhamma, some temples have little perennial, some temples lack of money to support construction, some monks do not clean the temple area, some temples do not construct buildings in proportion, some temples do not keep the toilet clean, some temples let villagers occupy on the temple's land, Some temple turn off the electricity in front of the temple at night, some temples focus on selling sacred objects, and some temples work alone. Suggestions found that new monks should develop themselves to have Dhamma knowledge, the temple should focus on planting the trees for shading, the temple should plan the construction with consideration of economic risks, the temple should clearly define the responsibility for maintaining cleanliness for the monks, the temple should set the plan in proportion, the temple should focus on the cleanliness of the toilets, the temple should be made permanent fence, the temple should be installed to illuminate the light in front of the temple, the temple should focus on building faith for the people by providing Dhamma for life, the temple should encourage teachers to study Dhamma education, and temples should cooperate with government or private agencies in organizing various activities with the benefit of the community.
